Forodhani Night Walk
Forodhani Gardens turns into a food market every evening. The walk is short and the point is the food: mishkaki, urojo (the local “mix” soup), Zanzibar pizza, which is a folded crepe and not pizza, sugarcane juice, and grilled seafood if you eat it. A guide keeps you from the stalls that are only performing for a camera and helps you order. We include a small tasting so you are not hunting for cash at the first plate. Eat more if you want; the extra is yours to pay. Go hungry. Dress as you would for a city evening.

Questions
Is the food safe?
We use stalls the guide eats at. It is still street food. If your stomach is cautious, we choose the cooked-to-order plates and skip the ones that sit.
Vegetarian or halal?
Halal is the norm on the grills. Vegetarian plates exist — urojo can be requested without meat, and there is roasted cassava, chutney, and the sweet side. Tell us.
What time?
After maghrib, when the stalls are actually lit. We set the hour for the month you travel.
